Travel, Parking & Logistics

Note: It’s a 21 km drive between the finish line (Putangirua Pinnacles) and the start line (Mangatoetoe). Allow plenty of travel time. Accommodation is available at Te Kopi Homestead, Waimeha Campground or the finish DOC Camp at the Pinnacles.

Ample parking is available at the finish, however limited at the start. Please consider travel arrangements prior. Trave list

To help with congestion, please carpool where you can — team up with other runners before race day. If you’d like to meet other entrants, consider arriving at registration earlier.

Warm clothing and other belongings can be left with volunteers at the start to transport to the finish.


What to Bring

The Aorangi Undulator is a backcountry event and conditions can change quickly. Come prepared.

  • Mandatory gear (minimum requirements): see the full list on our website
  • Wear your best trail shoes — expect wet, slippery, technical river travel and mud, scree and precipitous descents, and very limited course markings. This is a route, not a track.

Course Information

Point-to-point: Mangatoetoe → Putangirua Pinnacles

  • Route map: PDF
  • GPX file: download — load onto NZ Topo Maps on a fully charged phone before race day
  • Course marking is limited; marshals will be at the Huts only.

Emergency evacuation/safe exits from the course include, Kawakawa Station, Washpool stream, only evacuate with a marshal ensuring the race director knows your location and status.

Manual timing, with splits at:

  • Kawakawa Hut
  • Pararaki Hut
  • Washpool Hut

Make sure marshals can read your bib number and have noted your time.
